On one level, we have no idea what we’re doing.
None of us does.
We don’t know fully what will happen.
We don’t know fully what we want.
We don’t know fully who we are.
But on another level, we do know what we’re doing.
We can craft much of what will happen.
We can craft much of what we want.
We can craft much of who we are.
Or to put it another way, we might quote Mary Oliver,
“You do not have to be good. You do not have to walk on your knees for a hundred miles through the desert, repenting.”
“You only have to let the soft animal of your body love what it loves.”
–Renee Roederer
Both of these quotes come from Mary Oliver’s poem, Wild Geese.
