Tension is a Great Teacher

A green plant, growing in a crack in the asphalt. Public domain.

Where is the tension for you?

Is it the internal conflict of wanting two contradictory outcomes at the same time?

Is it that feeling of being pulled in too many directions?

Is it showing up in your relationships?

Is it in the wider conflicts around us?

Is it quite literally in your shoulders? Your jaw? Your stomach?

None of these experiences are ones we would choose. But they can be wise teachers if we let them be. If we allow them into our conscious awareness. If we invite them to reveal what they are trying to show us.

One of the people who shaped me most used to say,

“Lean into that. It has something to teach you.”

I think of him often, but I had not remembered that line in a while. It surfaced again yesterday, and I was grateful.

So what is teaching you right now?
